Deidre Irvine

Deidre Irvine is best known for her belief in and practice of horrorscopes. Her Grumblr, @weeklyhorrorscope, is where she posts most of her horrorscope readings.

Biography

Raised on Alternia by her lusus Slothmom, Deidre grew up highly exposed to Alternian propaganda. She holds bigoted, hemocasteist views. She aspires to be an astronaviscerator after ascension.

Deidre is an Alternian spin on the “I’m not like other girls” trope and the trope of horoscope girlies.

Typing Quirk

Deidre's quirk is bracketed by stars, reflecting her interest in astronomy and horrorscopes. The first start has a space after it.

Etymology

Name

According to Behind the Name, Deidre is a variation of the name Deirdre. Deirdre comes from a "tragic character in Irish legend who died of a broken heart after Conchobar, the king of Ulster, forced her to be his bride and killed her lover Naoise." This name was chosen due to Deidre's turbulent romantic life and because it also sounds vaguely like the word dream, reflecting her interest in the Horrorterrors.

According to Behind the Name, Irvine is a variation of the surname Irving. This is a Scottish surname based on the River Irvine, which is taken from Brythonic elements that mean "green water." This name was chosen because of how Deidre's blood color is green, how she lives near a river, and how she lives in a rainforest in a tree-top hive with vines all around.

Trolltag

Deidre's trolltag is horrorscopicPrecision. Horrorscopic is a reference on horrorscopes and is also a play on 'horror' and '-scopic' to mean something that is either 1) something observed to a scary degree or 2) a scary thing that is observed. In conjunction with the word precision, this refers to Deidre's interest in horror, her startlingly accurate horrorscope predictions, and her great shooting skills.

Trivia

When her design was originally created, Deidre was going to be named Daelit Dreama and have a much "dreamier" personality, but I thought that was too on-the-nose.

Although she is based off of the “not like other girls” trope and is often jokingly attributed as saying that she isn’t like other olivebloods, Deidre has never specifically said the phrase “I’m not like other olive[blood]s.”
